Burl Ives announces his intention to seek election as District 4 Commissioner in Itasca County. Ives is currently serving as a Harris Township supervisor. Burl said “I have learned the importance of really listening to community member concerns and being open to new ideas.”
Burl Ives moved to Itasca County after college in 1988 and brought with him a strong work ethic. “You start working in a family business when you are young. I learned the importance of honesty and hard work”. One of his high priorities is supporting the aggressive development of good jobs with working family wages. “This is a great area to raise a family, and I am proud to raise my two children, Samantha and Tommy with my wife, Kris, in Harris Township. But without jobs, our young people move out of the area”. Burl has worked in all aspects of the hospitality and food business. He has experience working in real estate development and the manufactured housing industry.
Currently serving on the Minnesota Lodging Association Board, the Grand Rapids Area Cable Commission, the Itasca County Trails Task Force, Visit Grand Rapids and a graduate of the Blandin Leadership program, Ives understands the importance of working together for the common good.
“I have heard the message loud and clear that taxes are too high,” said Ives. “What we need is tax reform and more common sense spending. Road and bridges need repairs, broadband and high speed internet needs to be brought into all homes and businesses in the county.”
Ives will work hard for these issues so our county residents can be competitive in the global economy.
“As your commissioner, I will focus on representing the people of my District while keeping the common good of the entire county in mind, because commissioner decisions affect us all.” If you have questions, Ives can be reached at 218-259-1279 or firstname.lastname@example.org
