On Monday, a short public hearing resulted in a change to the city ordinance regulating the hours of liquor sale on Sunday in the city of Coleraine.
Locker Room owners Ron and Christine Maki requested the city revisit the issue. The previous ordinance prohibited Sunday liquor sales prior to noon. State law, however, allows for service beginning at 10 a.m. With the addition of a breakfast menu and an increase in snowmobile traffic, the Makis asked the council to amend its ordinance to fall in line with state law.
During a brief discussion on the matter, councilors voiced unanimous support for the change. The amended ordinance also passed with unanimous support.
“If the state says 10 a.m. that should be good enough for the city of Coleraine,” said Councilor Peggy Smith.
In other business, the council:
• Approved the purchase of new computer for the city office in an amount between $800 and $900.
• Tabled a request from the fire department to purchase a four wheeler. The council will make a decision after information on financing options is obtained.
• Approved a road agreement with Itasca County.
