At a very short special meeting Tuesday morning, the Greenway School Board approved the purchase of property located at 499 Powell Ave. in Coleraine.
The property, which previously housed The Little School That Could daycare, will be used as a transitional educational facility, similar to facilities already in place in the Grand Rapids and Deer River school districts, according to Superintendent Mark Adams. Transitional facilities are a growing need for local districts, he added.
The district paid $192,000 for the property under the terms of sale. The money for the purchase was obtained through the district’s capital fund. The sale closing took place at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and district officials estimate that it will be ready for occupancy by April 1.
