At the regularly scheduled meeting of ISD 318 School Board on April 5, the board addressed several routine matters.
One of the first issues to come before the board was the termination and non-renewal of contracts with several probationary teachers. Board Clerk Sue Zeige read the resolution. The resolution stated that the contracts of the affected teachers would terminate at the end of the current school year, and would not be renewed for the 2016/2017 school year. The resolution passed unanimously.
After the vote, District 318 Superintendent Bruce Thomas offered his comments on the measure. “The District does not take any of this lightly. We understand full well the implications on an individual and the implications on a family,” he said
Thomas said that the nonrenewals were not necessarily disciplinary in nature, adding “in many cases they are procedural in nature.” Reasons for the terminations included funding, licensing issues or performance. In all, there were 26 teachers that were affected by the resolution.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a contract for window replacement in the amount of $111,600 with Hawk Construction.
• Approved a contract for bathroom remodeling in the amount of $168,300 with Hawk Construction.
• Approved a contract for flooring replacement in the amount of $81,011 with Dorholt Tile.
• Approved a contract with adjacent school districts for community education.
