On Thursday, May 22, Magnetation held a ‘Construction Celebration’ at Plant 4. Located at 28754 County Road 61, construction began in the cold of last December and is scheduled to be completed by January 2015 at a cost of $155 million. It will be the largest of the plants in Itasca County and the largest in the Magnetation lineup. Plant One is located in Keewatin, Plant Two is located in Taconite, and Plant Three is a partnership with Steel Dynamics located near Chisholm.
The operations will consist of the excavation and transport of iron-bearing tailings to the concentrator facility, where the iron units will be reclaimed using Rev3™ Separator technology. The iron ore concentrate will then be trucked to the Jessie Load-Out where it will be shipped by rail to the pellet plant in Reynolds, Indiana.
