Adams Publishing Group of Minneapolis has acquired 15 area newspapers as part of a larger purchase involving three newspaper divisions formerly owned by American Consolidated Media.
The acquisition includes regional newspaper groups on the Iron Range and in Northwestern Wisconsin. A purchase price was not disclosed.
A story jointly published by the acquired publications said the acquired properties include:
• The Mesabi Daily News, Hibbing Daily Tribune, Grand Rapids Herald Review, Walker Pilot Independent, Chisholm Tribune Press, Virginia Manney’s Shopper, Hibbing Manney’s Shopper and Grand Rapids Manney’s Shopper, all in Northeastern Minnesota.
• The Ashland Daily Press, Sawyer County Record, Sawyer TMC, Spooner Advocate, Phillips Bee, Park Falls Herald and Bayfield County Journal in Northwestern Wisconsin.
The affected publications have experienced numerous ownership changes during the past 15 years. Former owners have included Murphy McGinnis Media, MCG Capital Corp., Southern Cross Media Group (based in Australia) and ACM.
Adams is a privately held national-scale firm having holdings in numerous industries including publishing, banking, outdoor advertising, retail, radio, television and recreation. Minnesota native Stephen Adams is a key executive in the firm. A Yale graduate, he earned his MBA at Stanford Graduate School of Business and has served as board chair of the Affinity Group.
