The Itasca Viking Baseball team continued its strong start to the season as they swept Bismarck State on Monday with a 6-0 win and a 14-10 victory over the hosts. It was a strong weekend for the Vikings in which they posted three shutouts against Bismarck State.
John DeBord and Caleb Fisher combined to shut down Bismarck State, 6-0. DeBord earned the win pitching four scoreless while allowing only two hits. He struck out two in the game as well. Fisher picked up the save on the hill. He allowed only three hits in three scoreless with one strikeout.
Zach Otteson, Jeremy Aube and Peter Meidema had two hits each in the contest. Meidema and Aube each drove in a run. David Engel drove in two runs as well for the Vikings. Reid Holum, Rancel Rosado, Blake Thiesse, Brock Cichon and Ryan Miller had single hits as well.
Despite giving up two, five-run innings, the Itasca Vikings held on for a 14-10 victory over Bismarck State. The Vikings scored two in the first and added five in the third after Bismarck State scored five in its second. The Vikings added two in the fourth and three in the fifth to extend its lead. They were much-needed runs as Bismarck State rallied for five in its half of the sixth but it was not enough as the Vikings tacked on two more in the seventh to earn the 14-10 win.
Eric Benson earned the win in the victory. He allowed five runs, no earned runs, on six hits while striking out one and walking two. Ryan Miller earned the save; he pitched one scoreless inning of relief, striking out one.
Trey Allis had a monster day at the plate with three hits and drove in five runs. Engel added two hits and two runs scored. Aaron Foss, Tyrel Cournoyer, Bazil Zuelhke, Lane LeGarde, Austin Guggenberger and A.J. Emanuel collected hits in the win.
The Itasca Viking baseball team finally got back outside after a lengthy delay on Sunday as they swept a doubleheader from Bismarck State in Bismarck. The Vikings disposed of the hosts, 3-0 and 9-0, in picking up their first wins since their Spring Break trip to Florida.
Luke Thoma and Gabe Ploof combined on a 3-0 shutout over Bismarck State. Thoma pitched four strong innings to earn the victory. He allowed only five hits while striking out three and walking one in the win. Ploof finished the game off pitching three scoreless innings while striking out two.
An RBI single by Austin Guggenburger gave the Vikings the lead in the fifth when he plated Peter Meidema. Meidema doubled to start the inning. The Vikings tacked on two more in the seventh on an RBI single from David Engel and an RBI sacrifice bunt from Aaron Foss.
The Vikings no-hit Bismarck State in its 9-0 victory behind the pitching of Eythan Stangland and Max Koprek. Stangland went four allowing only one walk while striking out 10 Bismarck State batters to earn the win. Max Koprek finished the game off striking out five batters while walking one in an inning and two-thirds of work.
Zach Ottosen collected two hits and drove in three runs in the game for the Vikings. David Engel added two hits and a run batted in while Foss drove in two runs. Rancel Rosado, Reid Holum, Tyrel Cournoyer and Blake Thiesse collected single hits in the win.
