The Itasca Community College baseball team returned home from a trip to Florida with a 5-5 overall record. The Vikings started the trip strong, winning five of their first eight games, however, dropped three straight to end their Florida excursion.
The Vikings were victorious over Niagara County (6-4), Parkland (8-1), Vermilion (11-3, 7-5) and Northern Essex (7-5). However, the Vikings dropped decisions to Niagara County (11-2), Parkland (5-3), Northern Essex (2-1), Montgomery Germantown (11-1) and Allegheny (10-3).
Eythan Stangland earned a win on the mound against Niagara County. He allowed only one run while striking out three and giving up five hits. Trey Allis led the way at the plate with three hits while Ryan Miller added two. Jeremy Aube and Tyrel Cournoyer drove in two each.
The Vikings rolled to a victory over Parkland led by the strong pitching of Eric Benson and Ryan Miller. They combined to allow only one run on five hits while striking out five. Aaron Foss finished with two hits while driving in two runs. Jeremy Aube finished with one hits and drove in three.
The Vikings belted out 14 hits and scored 12 runs in a 12-8 victory over Vermilion. David Engel, Rancel Rosado, Jeremy Aube, Tyrel Cournoyer and Peter Meidema had two hits each while Elvis Cuello added three. Zach Ottosen picked up the win on the mound. The Vikings belted out 13 more hits in an 11-3 win over Vermilion. Lane LeGarde had three hits as did Blake Thiesse in the win. Austin Guggenberger added two hits in that win. Aube and Caleb Fisher combined to allow three runs on five hits.
Cournoyer led the way at the plate in a 7-5 win over Northern Essex. Cournoyer finished with four hits and drove in two runs while Osha Brewer added two hits and plated a run for the Vikings. Luke Thoma earned the win on the mound for the Vikings.
The Vikings sit at 5-5 overall to start the season. They are scheduled to be on the road starting on March 29 when they head to St. Cloud to take on the St. John’s Junior Varsity and St. Cloud Tech.
